Lower School (Kindergarten – 5th Grade)
About
At St. Mary’s School, our Lower School (Kindergarten through 5th Grade) provides a nurturing, academically rich environment grounded in our Catholic faith and guided by the principles of a Classical education. During these foundational years, students are encouraged to wonder, discover, and grow—spiritually, intellectually, and morally.

Curriculum
The Lower School curriculum follows the Classical Trivium, beginning with the Grammar Stage, where students absorb foundational knowledge through memorization, recitation, storytelling, and song. This natural love for learning is nurtured through a strong emphasis on:

A Classical Approach Rooted in Faith
Our Classical model emphasizes the development of the whole child—mind, body, and soul. We focus on cultivating virtue, wisdom, and a love for truth, beauty, and goodness. Students are taught to think critically, speak confidently, and write clearly, all while deepening their relationship with God.

Each school day begins with prayer and includes religious instruction, regular participation in the Sacraments, and integration of Catholic teaching throughout the curriculum.

Virtue, Discipline, and Joy
At St. Mary's Catholic School, we prioritize character formation. We believe in instilling virtues, discipline, and joy in our students. By working closely with families, we aim to nurture a sense of responsibility, respect, and service towards others. Through structured routines, engaging service projects, and daily encouragement, we empower children to grow into compassionate individuals who contribute positively to society.

Preparing for a Life of Purpose
By the end of 5th grade, our students are not only well-prepared for the logic and rhetoric stages of the Classical model—they are also young men and women of faith, virtue, and purpose. They leave Lower School with a strong academic foundation, a love for learning, and a heart for Christ.
