2025-2026 Academic Focus

This year, St. Mary’s School is thrilled to focus on two critical areas: Math Computation and Grammar!

Math Computation: We’re diving into exciting new strategies and tools that make mastering math concepts both fun and challenging. Our enhanced programs will spark a love for numbers and problem-solving, empowering students to excel in math.

Grammar: We’re elevating our grammar curriculum to ignite a passion for language and communication. Through interactive activities and creative exercises, students will develop strong writing and speaking skills that set them up for success.

Get ready for an enriching year of growth and discovery as we make math and grammar come alive in dynamic and engaging ways!

Religion

At St. Mary’s, daily Religion classes for all grade levels inspire students to grow in their Catholic faith and live as devoted followers of Jesus Christ. Through engaging texts and meaningful discussions, students deepen their understanding and practice of their beliefs.

Latin

Students in Grades 2-8 immerse themselves in Latin daily, focusing on grammar that enriches their understanding of English and lays a strong foundation for other languages. This classical language study enhances their overall linguistic skills and academic performance.

Reading & Literature

Our reading and literature program captivates students with meaningful classical literature across all grade levels. Grades 3-8 delve deeper into selected books, building comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. Each novel is chosen to inspire and nurture students, fostering a lifelong love of reading.

Phonics & Spelling

In the primary grades, daily Phonics and Spelling lessons ensure mastery of letter recognition and sounds. Through consistent practice, students develop strong word recognition and reading skills, setting the stage for successful literacy development.

English & Composition

English Grammar Recitation is taught in grades 3 and 4. Students learn how to examine and discuss literature and poetry and express themselves with accuracy, transparency and distinctiveness through their own writing. Our program teaches students the art of communication in a logical, organized approach as they learn to refine and master their writing skills.

Handwriting

Daily penmanship lessons in the lower grades ensure that students develop beautiful handwriting skills. Cursive writing begins in first grade and is systematically taught through grade five, promoting fine motor skills and attention to detail.

Math

Our math program for lower grades builds a strong foundation in arithmetic and algebraic readiness, emphasizing mastery through a logical, coherent approach. Students tackle Pre-Algebra in grade seven and Algebra 1 in grade eight, preparing them for advanced math studies.

Science & Social Studies

Our integrated program combines hands-on scientific investigations with in-depth studies of U.S. history, world cultures, and Christianity's influence on Western Civilization. Through group projects, outdoor activities, and comprehensive map skills, students apply math and writing, promoting critical thinking and a holistic understanding of the world.
